The word is out that Hamilton is a foodie’s paradise. Hamilton is a diverse multicultural city so it’s no surprise there’s a great range of restaurants and eateries inspired by many nationalities and cultures.

Lornae Lowe, co-owner of Aspen Manor Motel in Hamilton East, says there are some wonderful restaurants and cafés in the historic Hamilton East district.

“Hamilton East is one of Hamilton’s oldest suburbs,” says Lornae. “For a while in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries it was known as Irish Town and was populated by Irish servicemen.”

These days Hamilton’s diverse ethnic population is reflected in the range of eateries specialising in various types of cuisine.

“The great thing about being located here on Grey Street,” says Lornae, “is my guests have the option of many types of restaurants within walking distance. They can also drive or take a bus down town to the central city hospitality precinct.”

Guests at Aspen Manor Motel will be delighted to find Turkish, Thai, Indian and British cuisine, all on Grey Street and all within 550 metres of Aspen Manor Motel.

Babaganush Restaurant specialises in genuine Turkish food like kebabs, falafels and home-made Turkish bread.

Thai Orchid Restaurant offers dine-in and takeaway options and has a wide range of Thai dishes from mild to hot.

Bananaa Leaf South Indian Restaurant is well known to Hamilton residents and visitors for its quality Indian food and authentic Indian atmosphere.

Grey Street Kitchen has a range of English breakfast, lunch and dinner items as well as coffee and cabinet food. Guests can dine in or take away.

A short drive or bus ride from Hamilton East is the city’s hospitality precinct. There you will find popular restaurants like Furnace, Iguana and Palate.

Gothenburg has a terrace overlooking the Waikato river and is only a few doors from the Waikato Museum.

Of course the talk of the town at the moment is the opening of Madam Woo, with its modern Asian menu, owned by Hamilton celebrity chef Josh Emmet, former judge of Masterchef New Zealand.
